Loans & Grants

Home Energy Scotland and Energy Savings Trust are offering interest free loans and grant options for homeowners who are looking to improve the energy efficiency of their home. We've broken down what measures are eligible and how much you can get for installing energy efficiency improvements. Find out more by clicking the categories on the right and you can see what sort of grant and loan amounts are offered.

Increased Grants Now Available

Up to 75% grant funding for some eligible energy efficiency measures (based on total costs and capped at a maximum value) is now available. Funding is subject to availability while funds last or until the end of the financial year – whichever is sooner. Funds are reserved for customers when their loan is offered.

Q. Who can apply?

A. Homeowners Only

The scheme is only open to those who own and are planning to improve their own home. This includes a pre-existing property or even a property you're proposing to build yourself.

Unfortunately landlords, businesses and property developers can't apply. There is alternative funding via Scottish Government in the form of the Private Rented Sector Landlord Loan.

Things to Bear in Mind

There are a few things you should be aware of if you're considering applying for the loan scheme.

Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is subject to availability, or until the financial year ends - whichever is first.

Installation work cannot start until your loan offer is received in writing. Once confirmed, you'll have up to six months to carry out works.

The interest free loan can be combined with other schemes and incentives. You can call us for more info on 0141 810 1447.

Your application must include an EPR/EPC recommending the measures you're looking to have installed. We will carry this out for you.

An updated post EPC is required once you've had the work done, so loan funds can be issued.

Grants can be applied for without needing to apply for a loan. A loan only needs to be applied for when the funding falls short of the project cost.

Should loft and/or cavity wall insulation be recommended on the EPC and can be installed, you must have this work completed by the time you claim the funding. Grant and loan funding are available for these measures if they're recommended on the EPC.
